Many people living in urban areas and having little or no contact with nature come to the Belgrade zoo because they have an interest in animals. They expect that the zoo and living animals form the basis for education.

However, behavioral changes are the specificity of the zoos, and therefore visitors cannot learn almost anything about captive animal species. Visit the Belgrade zoo when you have time to study animal behavior and see if there are all the elements of the outlawed psychic animal abuse which damages their psychological integrity, and that causes behavioral problems.

zooIn the Belgrade zoo, we can see special attitude towards wild animals living in captivity. Polar bears are located in deep pits with no shelter from the sun. Temperature in Belgrade in the summer ranges from 35-40°C and then it is difficult for bears to breathe and they feel very bad because their habitats become uncomfortably hot. It is a torture for them. Wolves, wild cats, hippos, monkeys ... they all live in inhumane conditions, in a very small space without adequate care. Wild cats are bewildered with fear, and the birds cannot fly.

In the Belgrade zoo even a few domestic dogs are kept in very small boxes. This not only upsets those children who are aware of the needs of dogs, but also sends a completely wrong message to other children that it is normal for dogs to be treated in this way.

The zoos of this kind are no longer built and maintained anywhere in the world - they are closed because they are inhumane. Wild animals are placed in specially built reserves where they live in an open area with natural barriers and they can more or less move around freely and even socialize with each others, like in their natural environment.

Nowadays there are more humane solutions, across the world - from Spain to the African countries to Singapore - animal friendly spaces in which animals live much better and without torture.

We want to make you aware of such an important topic. We suggest that you take your children in a different environment, and show them examples of wild parks where the wilds animals are kept. Nowadays,  education on wildlife can be implemented through programmes and documentaries dedicated to the animals that we can observe in their natural environment.
